The first tip that Karen Hamilton’s thriller does not follow foreseeable traces about feminine hysteria can be found in their title. The right Girlfriend is the ideal nickname for a blackly comedic tale about a woman, known to some as Elizabeth and others as Juliette, whoever fixation with her ex-boyfriend blooms into an absurdist dream with harmful effects.
Nate is a pilot, plus his frequent absences Juliette moves unseen into their existence, allowing by herself into their London flat, holding the woman clothes within his wardrobe, scrutinising the belongings in his toilet case to determine his county of fitness, stashing his favorite treats in the fridge. Next she becomes a career as a flight attendant along with his airline.
The evident obliviousness of “Nate” for this barrage against his privacy encourages your reader to ponder whether he or she is an item of delusion. But depend on: Juliette’s adeptness as a stalker does not convert to dishonesty as a narrator. Hamilton goes all-in from the mind of a female who is going to justify something in pursuit of her purpose, while the best Girlfriend may be study both because of its activities quotient – and that’s large – and also for its knowledge into how people with an abnormal or errant character gets near society.
